We have now finished harvesting the honey from our bees and have beautiful jars filled with wonderful honey.

We have done some taste testing of our own with some "other" honey we had bought and we all agree that we like ours the best.

I guess you figured I would say that. But really, I think that all our herbs that the bees have enjoyed has really made a difference in the taste.

If you want to grow herbs indoors this winter, now is the time to start. Check out our latest page on indoor herb container gardens.

I have been researching the health benefits of honey and came across an excellent website at www.health-benefits-of-honey.com and found some interesting facts about honey that has convinced me start eating at least a spoonful of it everyday.

Find out more in the article below.

Hope you enjoy this issue! :)

    Article: Benefits of Eating Honey

The fact that honey was used during ancient times for medicine was mostly lost until modern scientists began to recognize it for its healing properties as an antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-microbial.

Another great website I found at www.benefits-of-honey.com explains some of the benefits of honey below.

Like me, you have probably heard that its helpful to take a spoonful of honey with some lemon when you're getting a sore throat. Would you like to know why? Thanks to the antibacterial properties of the honey, it not only soothes the throat, but it also kills the bacteria that causes the infection. Pretty cool, eh?

Honey also has fructooligoasaccharide (FOS) which is the long chains of fructose sugar molecules linked together. They are found in plants such as Jerusalem artichoke tubers, onion, leeks, barley, rye, and oats.

The health benefits of FOS include helping carry moisture through the digestive system which promotes healthy bowels, and lowers blood sugar and cholesterol levels by reducing the absorption of carbohydrates and fats into the blood stream.

Honey contains every vitamin, mineral and essential ingredient including water that we need to sustain life and keep healthy.

Why else do you think they call it "The Nectar of Life"?

A friend recently bought some of our honey because her doctor told her that by simply eating a teaspoon a day, it's the same as getting an allergy shot. If you live in the Middle Tennessee area, you probably have allergies!

Our doctor is even going to send his dad some so that he can be taking it before he gets here so that his allergies won't be so bad.

Check out more of the health benefits of honey at www.health-benefits-of-honey.com and www.benefits-of-honey.com. I know you will be amazed.

    Cool Tools

This is our newest feature. I always see so many cool tools and I thought you might like to learn about them too.

This month we are featuring the hottest selling tool this season called the Easy Bloom Plant Sensor.

The newest breakthrough in plant technology, this innovative device will tell you which plants are perfect for your growing areas and more. It will even help diagnose a sick plant!

Curious as to how it works?

The sensor uses the same moisture sensing technology that was used on NASA's Mars Phoenix Mission. To use, simply place the sensor where you would like to grow, wait 24 hours and then plug the sensor into the USB port of your computer. The Easy Bloom does the rest! Easy Bloom will not work outside of the United States.

Bottom line it saves you time and money by giving you the information you need to make wise gardening decisions. Check it out the EasyBloom Plant Sensor and see if you could use one for your yard.

    Hot new plant

Proven Winners has done it again by introducing another "goof-proof" plant which is heat and disease resistant. The new Superbells Dreamsicle variety is a real winner for zones 9-11.

This is a Calibrachoas which is a new type of plant related to (and looks like) petunias but their even better because they aren't sticky, perk right back up after it rains, and stay compact and bushy even when stressed.

They will be covered with blooms from spring until first frost. Be sure and look for them at your local garden center.

    Garden Calender

    • Continue to take notes on places you have in your garden where nothing is blooming so you can fill in the blank spots this fall.
    • Reduce work by buying Low-Maintenance Plants like coneflowers and ornamental grasses.
    • Keep mulch pulled away 3 inches from tree trunks to prevent decay and disease.
    • Plant fall herbs and vegetables.
    • Buy mums early, while in tight bud stage, for the best chance of a long show. Keep in full sun and water daily. Cut back to 6 inches and plant in ground for next year.
