Halloween Decorating Ideas Using Dried Herbs and Everlastings are Right Outside Your Backdoor
There are so many fun Halloween decorating ideas that you can make using your fresh and dried herbs that are right outside your backdoor...you are only limited by your imagination! One of my joys has been to spend lots of time in the late summer/early fall just harvesting and drying to my hearts content in preparation for fall. Grow your own gourds and pumpkins, if room in your garden permits, to add to your decorations. I especially love the little munchkin pumpkins and crown of thorn guards featured in the birdbath.
Some of my favorite herbs to dry are wormwood artemisia, yarrow, cockscomb, ornamental grasses, statice, goldenrod, hydrangeas, bittersweet (Solanum dulcamara), strawflowers, rose hips, and even sumac berries.Don't have that much time? That's okay. Just a few herbs like silver king artemisia, also called the "ghost plant", can turn an ordinary table decoration or front door wreath into something special. Or, bittersweet, found along the side the road or at a florist store, can be twined around grapevines for a festive look. Add whatever other elements you like that will blend with your decor. How about a simple wreath of oak leaves with a pumpkin or gourds around it? My decorations don't have ghosts and goblins on them, but you could certainly add those elements if you like. You can even spray paint your dried herbs and everlastings to whatever color you like..even black and orange (yarrow is especially good for this!) Just use regular spray paint, found at hardware stores, or floral spray, found at craft stores, and spray paint outside or in any well ventilated area. Use your imagination to combine wreaths, swags, dried flowers and foliage with other decorative elements of the season to give your home and workplace the look you want.
