Moles

Moles can cause a lot of damage to your yard, but your already know that. That's why your reading this article.

If you are sick and tired of having them destroy your yard, read on.

Sometimes mole damage can be mistaken for vole damage.

It's important to know the difference between the two because they are dealt with differently when using pest control.

What is a mole?

They are about 5 to 7 inches long. Blind and hairless with a pointed snout, they are pretty ugly little creatures. mole

They have large, broad, paddle-like forefeet with prominent claws for digging.

These underground pests are loners and only come together to breed. They live about 3 or 4 years. That's gives them plenty of time to do a lot of damage to your garden.

They live entirely underground in burrows and almost never come to the surface.

They are often blamed for killing garden plants, bulbs, bark and roots. The fact is, they rarely eat plants or plant parts. They mostly eat grubs, beetles and worms that are found underground in the soil. They destroy your garden by making tunnels while looking for food.

The reason they are so active is because they consume 70% to 100% of their body weight each day. Just one mole can cover up to one acre of land.

How To Control Moles

Molexit is a special repellent for these creatures that has worked well for us. It is safe and easy to use.

The product is made out of caster oil and has been proven to be effective by the University of Kentucky in reducing moles and their damage.

Molexit is a time released mole pesticide that is safe and keeps working when other castor oil based pesticides wear out.

If you have neighbors that have moles, and you don't yet have any, you would be smart to go ahead and treat your yard withMolexit in order to keep them out of your yard.

History of Molexit

Molexit was developed over a 5 year period between 1991 to 1996 by a man named Bruce Evans. He had bought a mole-infested piece of property and remembered that his grandparents had use castor plants ("mole beans") to keep these pests away.

He decided to make his own repellent and started to experiment to find a way to cover a large area with a small amount of castor oil, then release it slowly over time to avoid frequent applications.

Molexit was born.

After successful test marketing at garden shows, he established 15 dealers in the local area. In August 1997, Molexit was picked as one of the top twenty new products from Kentucky and was featured on QVC. Over 1719 boxes were sold on QVC in under 5 minutes!

The Kentucky Department of Forestry agreed to test the product in 2002 and found that 80% of the treated areas had no mole activity for 4 to 6 weeks.

Be sure and follow the instructions that come with the product.

    Mole Traps

We have also had luck with traps.

In order to be successful with these, you first have to find the active tunnel. Pick a tunnel and stomp it down and mark it with something so that you can come back to it the next day to check to see if the tunnel is up again.

If the tunnel has been active again, this is where you can set your trap.

These traps can been purchased at garden centers.
