My Herb Gardening Story

by Connie
(East Coast)

Container Gardening in the Sky

Container Gardening in the Sky

I enjoy all types of tea and last year I grew some herbs on my terrace to brew tea as well as add flavor to other teas. I found mint to be a great compliment to black iced tea. I was able to have mint in abundance even in a container. The lemon balm I grew made a nice tasting tea on its own.

I took the time to dry these leaves and have enjoyed using the herbs in cooking all this past winter. I have even sprinkled the dried lemon balm on my tossed salad, it's great. I love it sprinkled on fish as well.

Growing herbs on my terrace has its challenges, because the sun is blocked by walls. I have to move plants around and try to elevate the containers to take advantage of the sun. I find it has been well worth it.

This year I will be adding parsley tea. What a versatile herb, it has so many good benefits and like the other herbs it dries well.

BTW, I enjoy you site you offer such useful information.

Comment For Container Gardening in the Sky

Thanks so much Connie for your story about container gardening with herbs. They look very happy! Great job.

Also, I love the idea of drying your herbs like lemon balm for use as seasonings for winter meals. A few years ago, I bought the book Herb Mixtures & Spicy Blends and had fun making my own herbal blends for cooking. This book also has tea blends such as "High Calcium Tea Blend," "Sweet Dreams," and "Good Health Tea Blend" that were very good too.
Happy Gardening!
Julia
