Narcissi Planting In June
Question: I recently purchased some narcissus at a close out sale. It is now mid June here in Vermont. Can I plant now ( would they bloom ) or should I wait until fall. If I wait until fall how should store them Thanks Vermont Gardner
Answer I'm so glad you were able to get a great deal on your narcissus.
Here in the Mid South, we don't plant them past Feb/March.
It may be difficult to keep them until fall without them going bad.
You may give it a try by throwing away any that feel mushy. Then, separate the rest so that they don't touch. Layering them in sphagnum moss or sawdust to keep the moisture out would be helpful too.
Then, store the bulbs in a dry, dark, cool place with good air circulation.
Temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees F are ideal, but your bulbs should be fine within a range of 35-75 degrees F.
