How to Grow Rosemary

Rosemary, Rosmarinus officianalis, is one of the best-loved tender perennial herbs that you can grow. Known for it's needle like evergreen foliage that can be used in cooking and crafting. It also attracks birds and bees.

Uses: Flavor meats, vegetables, and soups. Also in potpourris and sachets.

Size: Grows 4-6' tall be 2-4' wide.

Placement: Good in borders, rock gardens, and containers.

Soil: Plant in loose, well drained soil; dislikes heavy clay. pH 6.0-6.7.

Best climate: Zone 7-10 where temperatures stay above 10F.

Pest and disease: Scale pests indoor. Wipe with cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol.

Harvesting and storing: Collect the leaves and flowers in spring and early summer. Snip fresh foliage for culinary use after the dew has evaporated from the plant in the morning.

This herb is sensitive to over watering in pots.Be sure the plant dries out a bit in between waterings, but not so much that the plant wilts. Over watered will cause brown leaf tips which indicates the roots are rotting.

Since it grows well in the summer, prune severely to shape or to keep it out of the way of near by plants.
