Southern Gardener's Book of Lists
The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists is one book that should be at the top of your book wish list. It has more than 200 lists which include annuals, perennials, vines, trees, shrubs, roses, azaleas, fern, ground covers, bulbs, ornamental grasses, wildflowers, and tropical plants that have been proven to work in gardens throughout the Southeasern United States including Florida. I have personally used this book for years as a resource to answer common problems like what plants to plant on sites with poor drainage, shade, slopes, drought areas, alkaline soil conditions. It also has lots of tips that will save you time and money when you are looking for plants for your own Garden of Eden.
Although it is filled with advice and anecdotes from professional horticulturists, Master Gardeners, botanical societies and seasoned gardeners, don't think that The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists is a lot of Latin terms and technical mumbo jumbo. It is meant to be used by both the novice home gardener as well as professional horticulturists. It is especially helpful for those who have recently moved to the Southeast and who need a helpful lists of plants to start their own southern gardens. The author, Lois Trigg Chaplin, has done a wonderful job putting this source book together. Meant to be used as a a workbook as well, you really can't afford to be without the book The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists in your library.
