Wacked-out, weed eating lawn guy

(Atlanta, GA, USA)

Tree peony in our garden

Tree peony in our garden

Question: To our dismay, our lawn maintenance guy used a weed eater and mistakenly cut our loquats, dahlias, butterfly bushes, mums, double peonies, red sedum and other plants to the ground. It is the end of July in Atlanta, GA. Is there any chance they will survive? BTW, he no longer has our account.

Reply: Your wacked-out weed eating lawn guy sounds worse than our hungry herd of deer that come by every night!

Wow, so sorry to hear of all the damage done, bit I have good news.

You'll be happy to know that since you live in Atlanta, you have about three more months of growing season left before your plants go dormant for the winter.

This should give them a chance to recover and grow a little before the first hard freeze. Of course, you won't get anymore blooms out of them this season, but they should come back fine next spring.

I would suggest a little tender loving care (meaning not forgetting to water them since they've been wacked) during the next few months.

Best of luck!

Julia
